By David Deal The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today that Philadelphia KiXX goalkeeper Peter Pappas has been named the MISL Goalkeeper of the Year for the seven-day period ending November 21. The award is the fourth for a KiXX member this season; Pat Morris was named the League’s Defensive Player-of-the-Week twice (periods ending October 25 and November 7) and John Barry Nusum was honored as the Offensive Player-of-the-Week for the seven-day period ending November 7. Pappas, a native of Toronto, Ontario, earned a 6-5 victory versus the Monterrey Tigres on November 20 after turning away 18 of the 23 shots he faced in the contest. The 32-year-old netminder was tested down the stretch, as Monterrey was able to register 14 shots on goal in the fourth quarter. Pappas made eight saves on nine chances in the period. With the victory, he remains perfect, 3-0, this season and ranks tied for first in goals against average (4.00). The nine-year veteran has been named to seven all-star squads, five of which he was selected to start, and six all-league teams in his career. Pappas was named the MISL’s Goalkeeper of the Year for 2003-04 campaign, after finishing the regular season with a 17-12 record, a 5.44 goals against average and a League-best .765 save percentage. The Philadelphia University also received Player-of-the-Week honors five times (seven-day periods ending October 5 and 12, January 18 and February 1 and 8) and Player-of-the-Month honors for his play in October and January last season. Overall in his career, Pappas has received Player-of-the Week honors 17 times, as well as eight Player-of-the-Month honors. Pappas and the rest of the KiXX travel to Cleveland to battle Eastern Division foe, the Cleveland Force, this Friday, November 26. Game-time at the Convocation Center at CSU is scheduled for 7:05 pm ET. The club returns to the Wachovia Spectrum on Friday, December 3 to entertain the San Diego Sockers. The first 1,500 fans, 14 and older, to enter the gates will receive a complimentary 2004-05 Philadelphia KiXX Dance Team Calendar.
