By David Deal The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today that Philadelphia KiXX forward John Barry Nusum and defender Pat Morris have been honored with Player-of-the-Week honors for the seven-day period ending November 7; Nusum was named the MISL Offensive Player-of-the Week, while Morris was dubbed Defensive Player-of-the-Week for the second time this season. Nusum, a rookie out of Devonshire, Bermuda, led all KiXX scorers with six points on four goals and two assists in the club’s two victories over the two-time defending MISL Champion Baltimore Blast this weekend. The 23-year-old forward first notched a pair of points (goal, assist) in Baltimore on November 5, and then registered a game-high four points (three goals, assist) in the team’s home-opening victory versus the Blast on November 6; one of his three goals proved to be the game winner. Nusum has now tallied a goal in each of his first three professional indoor games. The Furman University graduate is currently tied for fifth place in the MISL in points (seven), tied for first on the team. Nusum, the university’s all-time leading scorer with 65 goals and 161 points, has also competed with the Atlanta Silverbacks (2002-2003) and the Toronto Lynx (2004) of the outdoor A-League. Morris, who was also honored as the League’s Defensive Player-of-the-Week for the seven-day period ending October 25, stabilized the club’s backline with six blocks and notched a pair of goals versus Baltimore this weekend. The Philadelphia native registered a score in each of the contests and blocked a season-high four shots at the 1st Mariner Arena on November 5. The 27-year-old defender is currently tied for the MISL lead in blocks (nine) and tied for 10th in points (six). The Philadelphia University graduate was named to the All-Rookie team in 1999-00 and to an All-League team each of the past three seasons (2001-02, 2002-03, 2003-04). Morris, an alumnus of Northeast Catholic High School in Philadelphia, PA, finished his collegiate career fourth all-time in school history with 49 goals and 120 points. In addition to this season’s two accolades, Morris has now received the League’s weekly honor five times in his six-year career; he also was named the MISL Defensive Player-of-the-Week for the seven-day periods ending December 28, 2003, January 11, 2004, and February 8, 2004. Morris received player-of-the-month accolades for both January and February in 2004. Morris, Nusum and the rest of the KiXX prepares for a back-to-back home series versus the San Diego Sockers and the Chicago Storm. The KiXX entertain San Diego on Saturday, November 13, then welcome MISL newcomer, the Chicago Storm, on Sunday, November 14. The first 3,000 fans to enter the gates for Saturday’s contest will receive a 2004-05 Philadelphia KiXX Team Photo, courtesy of Baum Printing. The KiXX-Storm match-up features a Mascot Game, in which SocceRoo welcomes all area mascots to participate in a friendly contest at halftime. Game-time for Saturday is scheduled for 7:05 pm ET, while Sunday’s contest is slated for a 1:05 pm ET start time.
