By David Deal The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today that defender Pat Morris has been named the League’s Defensive Player of the Week (POW) for the seven-day period ending April 3. The accolade is the sixth such honor for the Philadelphia native this season, the most by a single player in the MISL this season. Morris, who was also honored as the League’s Defensive Player-of-the-Week for the seven-day periods ending October 24, November 7, December 13, December 20, and January 31, registered three points and blocked five shots in Philadelphia’s two weekend games. The 27-year-old kicked-off the doubleheader weekend with a season-high three assists and three blocks in the club’s 7-3 win in St. Louis on April 2. Morris then added a pair of rejections in Sunday’s (April 3) 4-3 overtime loss to the Baltimore Blast. The Philadelphia University product leads the MISL with 82 blocks and ranks 16th on the circuit with 38 points (19 goals, 19 assists). He was also named the MISL’s Defensive Player of the Month for December. The product of Northeast Catholic was named to the All-Rookie team in 1999-00 and to an All-League team each of the past three seasons (2001-02, 2002-03, 2003-04). Morris finished his collegiate career fourth all-time in school history with 49 goals and 120 points. In addition to this season’s four accolades, Morris has now received the League’s weekly honor nine times in his six-year career; he also was named the MISL Defensive Player-of-the-Week for the seven-day periods ending December 28, 2003, January 11, 2004, and February 8, 2004. Morris received player-of-the-month accolades for both January and February in 2004.
