By David Deal The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today that defender Drew Kopp has been named the League’s Defensive Player of the Week (POW) for the seven-day period ending March 27. The accolade is the first such honor for the Bridgeport, Connecticut native in his five-year career. Kopp anchored the club’s defensive, which held the Cleveland Force to only a pair of goals and 23 shots in Philadelphia’s 8-2 victory on March 26. Cleveland entered the contest having scored 35 goals over the course of a five-game winning streak and leading the MISL in shots per game (33.1). The 28-year-old defender has now registered nine points on seven goals and two assists, while compiling 19 blocks on the defensive end of the floor in 28 games this season. Kopp is the second KiXX player to be named Defensive POW this season, joining five-time winner Pat Morris. The University of Pittsburgh graduate began his indoor career with Philadelphia in 2000 and was a member of the team’s 2001-2002 Championship roster. Kopp has eclipsed the 100-block plateau and recently recorded the 50th point of his career. Kopp and the rest of the KiXX head west to battle the St. Louis Steamers on Saturday, April 2, before returning home to entertain the defending MISL Champion Baltimore Blast on Sunday, April 3. Saturday’s contest at the Saavis Center will kick-off at 8:05 pm ET, while Sunday’s meeting is slated for a 1:05 pm ET start at the Wachovia Spectrum.
