By David Deal The Philadelphia KiXX (16-9) were defeated by the Milwaukee Wave (13-10) 6-2 in front of 9,872 fans for the club’s 10th Annual School Day Game at the Wachovia Spectrum today. Milwaukee’s Pat White recorded the game-winning goal at 6:08 of the second quarter. Peter Pappas (14-8) took the loss for Philadelphia with 10 saves on 16 chances, while Nick Vorberg (11-5) earned the victory for the Wave, turning away 13 of the 15 shots he faced. After nearly 14 minutes (13:53) of scoreless action to open the game, KiXX forward Goran Vasic found the back of the net for a restart power-play goal on a dish from player/coach Don D’Ambra; Philadelphia received the one-man advantage after Wave defender Chris Morman was called for a two-minute holding infraction. With the tally, Vasic registered the 500th point of his seven-year career and D’Ambra extended his point streak to eight games. D’Ambra extended the KiXX advantage to two with a notch from defender Drew Kopp just 50 seconds into the second stanza. Midfielder Matt Schmidt finally put Milwaukee onto the scoreboard with a strike on a pass from teammate Greg Howes at 2:56. The Wave continued their offensive assault with a pair of unanswered goals to take a 3-2 lead to close out the half. Guiliano Oliviero struck first with a power-play goal at 4:37, after Gloucester Township native Jeff Moore was sent to the box for a two-minute tripping infraction. Wave defender Pat White then concluded the quarter with a score at 6:08; Howes registered the assist on both goals. The Wave continued to roll in the second half as Michael King lofted a pass from Morman from just inside the field’s centerline to lengthen their lead to two, 4-2, at 1:20 of the third quarter. Howes and Schmidt clinched the Wave victory with a pair of goals to close out the game, 6-2. Howes notched an unassisted tally at 13:14, followed by Schmidt who connected with White at the 14-minute mark. With the loss, the KiXX are now 11-7 all-time in school-day games and 8-2 when played in the City of Brotherly Love. Notes: Goran Vasic and Don D’Ambra connected for the game’s opening goal. With the tally, Vasic recorded the 500th point of his career and D’Ambra extended his point streak to eight games. D’Ambra also recorded one block to mark the 250th rejection of his illustrious career.
