Don D'Ambra Named MISL Offensive Player of the Week
Player/Coach Receives Second Weekly Accolde of 2004-05

Monday, February 14, 2005

By David Deal
Philadelphia KiXX Director of Communitions

The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today that player/coach Don D’Ambra has been named the League’s Offensive Player of the Week (POW) for the seven-day period ending February 13. The accolade is the second such honor for the Philadelphia native this season; he was also named the MISL’s Offensive POW for the seven-day period ending January 30.

D’Ambra led all scorers with four points in the team’s two victories this past week. The St. Joseph’s graduate first notched a team-high three points on one goal and two assists in Kansas City on February 9, and then added a power-play tally versus the Baltimore Blast on February 12. The first of his two assists versus the Comets marked the 150th feed of his 11-year career. The 32-year-old all-star forward, who appeared in the 400th game of his career versus the Cleveland Force on February 5, currently ranks fifth on the club with 21 points on 14 goals and seven assists and is enjoying a seven-game point streak.

The Northeast Catholic product made his indoor professional debut with the Milwaukee Wave in 1994 and was later traded to Philadelphia for their inaugural season of 1996-97. D’Ambra is one of only two players (Peter Pappas) to be with the KiXX since their inception and as such, he holds nearly every offensive record in franchise history including games played (287), goals (251), and game-winners (32). He was named to the League’s All-Rookie team in 1994-95 and has been selected an all-star twice in his career. Overall, D’Ambra has now received Player of the Week honors three times and Player of the Month honors once.

D’Ambra and the rest of the KiXX will entertain the Milwaukee Wave in the club’s 10th Annual School Day Game on Wednesday, February 16. The contest is designed as an educational field trip that is offered to all the area schools. The National Constitution Center, Philadelphia Zoo and the Philadelphia Library are only a few of the organizations that are scheduled to participate in the program. The matinee is slated to kick-off at 10:35 am ET. The team then heads west for a two-game road trip, beginning on Saturday, February 19 when they battle the Kansas City Comets. Game-time at the Kemper Arena is scheduled for 8:35 pm ET. The KiXX then conclude the trip with a visit to the Wolstein Convocation Center to square-off versus former player/coach Omid Namazi and the Cleveland Force on Sunday, February 20. The contest is slated for a 3:05 pm ET start time.
