MISL Announces Dispersal Draft Details

Monday, January 3, 2005

By David Deal
Philadelphia KiXX Director of Communitions

The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today details for the special dispersal draft to allocate players on the rosters of the former San Diego Sockers and the MISL Monterrey teams. The League will hold the dispersal draft on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. (EST) via teleconference. Teams will select players according to their combined winning percentage from the 2003-04 season and the first part of the 2004-05 season, including games played through January 2, 2005. Selection order is based on the lowest winning percentage selecting first and the best winning percentage selecting last. Accordingly, the Chicago Storm hold the first selection in the draft, while the Cleveland Force own the second pick and the St. Louis Steamers are third. The Kansas City Comets, Philadelphia KiXX, Baltimore Blast and the Milwaukee Wave will round out the selection order. Results of the dispersal draft will be released on Thursday, January 6 to allow for teams to contact players they have selected.

As a result of the San Diego Sockers and MISL Monterrey discontinuing operations for the balance of the season, the MISL will release tomorrow, Tuesday, January 4, a revised League schedule for the remainder of the 2004-05 regular season. The remaining home matches of the San Diego Sockers and the MISL Monterrey schedules for the 2004-05 season have been cancelled. All other teams’ home matches will be played as scheduled, with some minor adjustments.

The Major Indoor Soccer League is a single-entity organization featuring a coast-to-coast presence with seven teams located across the United States. On February 27, the League announced an expansion team in Stockton, CA, that will begin play in 2005-06. On May 4, the League announced plans for an expansion team in Newark, NJ, that will begin play in 2007-08. The Dallas Sidekicks, currently reorganizing under new leadership, plan to return for the 2005-06 season. The MISL is the single major league of indoor soccer.
