By Forrest Robleto The Barons were expecting a large crowd as the game was being played at a convenient venue (Lenape High School in Medford, NJ). The rain kept the crowd away, but didn't cool the Barons. The Barons dominated the New Brunswick Brigade, and even though Paul Royal did get a shutout (with a little help from Steve Welham) the real show was at the other end of the field. Mark Southern opened the scoring with a line drive to the top of the net. There was no arc to the ball at all, and the scoring was opened at the fourteen-minute mark of the first half. That goal proved to be the game winner, but the Barons got a lot of insurance. Early in the second half Majik Agu started to put on a bit of a show and drew some extra attention. Jim Harvey gave the ball to Joe Nick who put it past keeper Rob Vartughian for 2-0. Majik continued the show and got a nifty ball to Rod Lennox who put the game out of reach at 3-0. Then Dan Manella fought his way to the far right corner and made a perfect cross that Mark Southern picked up for his second goal of the day. One minute later Dan Manella made an identical play but this time Majik picked it up as it came across. With the score completely out of reach, Paul Royal gave over the goal to Steve Welham who made one save to hold the shutout. Rod Lennox and Majik Agu each got a yellow card during the game. The Barons got maximum points for this win and that combined with the win over the first pace Delaware Wizards last night made it a pretty good weekend. The Barons are on the road for the next four weeks and will return home Saturday night June 24 for a 6 PM game against the Delaware Wizards at Carey Stadium in Ocean City, NJ.
