South Jersey Soccer: Northern Virginia Royals 1-3 SJ Barons Sunday, July 4, 2004 By John Thompson The South Jersey Barons were in sensational form on Sunday night against D3 pro side Northern Virginia. The Barons played some of the best soccer of the season as they created chances at will. The Barons dominated the first half in possession and in chances. In the 27th minute Ruben Mingo scored his 12th of the season as he lobbed the goalie from 30 yards out. Two minutes later the Barons stretched there lead to two when Brian Devlin struck with a looping header from a Tony Donatelli cross. The Barons were in control of the game from start to finish and Justin Saddler finished of the Royals volleying home from a Ruben Mingo cross . Saddler went off shortly after with a knee injury. Virginia got a consolation goal late on when Said Nabih robbed Ryan Carr of the ball and curled in a shot from a tight angle. The Barons are now 6 points clear of Albany in the Northeast conference table with 4 games left to play in regular season. The Barons need 4 points from there last 4 games to be certain of a play off berth. |
