South Jersey Soccer: Syracuse Game Re-scheduled Thursday, June 17, 2004 By John Thompson Following the abandonment of the Open Cup game a new date has been set by US Soccer. A day of discussion Wednesday between the U.S. Soccer Federation, which runs the summer-long tournament involving pro and amateur clubs, the Salty Dogs and the Barons failed to produce a makeup date. The Barons Lamar Hunt US Open Cup game against Syracuse will be re-played on Monday June 21st, 2004, at Winslow H.S. Kick off is at 5.30pm. The game will be re-played in its entirety, however, the two players sent off from Syracuse will serve there suspensions during this game. The first match was tied 1-1 with the dogs down to nine men when lightning caused the game to be abandoned. In second-round Open Cup play Tuesday, four PDL teams defeated teams in the Pro Soccer League, which is considered third-division soccer in the United States. The A-League is considered second-division and Major League Soccer is the top division. Boulder Rapids, Cape Cod, Carolina Dynamo, and the Chicago Fire Reserves knocked out teams from a higher division. The winner of the Syracuse-South Jersey match advances to play the MLS Columbus Crew on June 30 in Columbus, Ohio. The Barons will play three games in four days beginning with a PDL game at home versus fifth placed Rhode Island on Saturday night, 5.30pm Kick Off. The Barons home game against the Reading Rage on Sunday night has been re-scheduled so that the players do not play four games in four days as requested by US Soccer. Monday night will be the big replay and Tuesday night the Barons host the Jersey Falcons in a re-scheduled game from June 5th. Barons Schedule |
