On a hot and muggy Saturday afternoon with a threat of rain, the Banshees returned home to face the Piedmont Spark in women's soccer action. Although the Banshees had the edge throughout the day and manpower edge for most of the day, the Spark came away with the win. The Banshees opened the scoring at the nine minute mark with a pretty pass from Carlie Lloyd to Adrienne Dugandzic who made no mistake from about six yards out. The Banshees continued to dominate and at the 24 minute mark a Spark's midfielder Adrienne Barnes left the game with a red card. The Banshees continued to dominate and finished the half up 1-0 on shots of 5-2.
The second half began much as the first left off but at the 72 minute mark the Spark got a free kick. Midfielder Jin Thelon didn't put much on it but keeper Janet Shillig guessed wrong and the Spark tied the score. Buoyed by the goal, Piedmont came back strong and the Banshees still playing as if they had a comfortable lead relaxed. The obvious result was a goal by Lindsey McLeon to put the Spark ahead for the game. The Banshees stepped up the pace after the second goal but only managed to dominate without scoring as they did the rest of the game. The Banshees outshot the Spark 10-6 but only the ones that go in, count.
The Banshees will face the New Hampshire Lady Phantoms 5:00PM Saturday June 30 at Cherokee high school in Marlton. The game will be another soccer doubleheader with the South Jersey Barons facing the New Hampshire Phantoms immediately following.
