South Jersey Soccer: Saturday, May 27, 2000
By Vincent Lewis Another year has gone by for the annual long weekend of making plans for the Memorial Day holiday that includes fun, food, soccer...and rain. Families from up and down the East Coast included New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland and more were looking for that perfect weather to enjoy soccer. Well that didn't happen. But the weather didn't dampen the spirits of the participants of the Voorhees Soccer Association Memorial Weekend Tournament. With over 200 teams participating in this annual soccer tournament, each one had to find alternate plans between games for the rainy weekend. It seemed as if teams were disappointed in the way things turned out. That was not the case as most of the players enjoyed the soggy weather. The games would continue to play, as the clubs were able to collect the patches of their opponents. The end of the tournament would finally be played under dry skies but cooler temperatures. The winners would celebrate their victories while others would just enjoy the experience of slipping and sliding on the wet grass. There would be a few who would be disappointed with their performance, but they would still remember the experience. Photos by Art Redd
