The Berlin Township Hurricanes and the Atlantic United All-Stars played a great game this past weekend. It was a shame that one team had to lose. The game started late, because the ref 's first game started late. In the heat and the sun, the players took the field and played hard.
The Hurricanes started the scoring, with a goal by M. Sparks, with assists to B. Gadzia and M. Williams. A couple of minutes later, M. Sparks had another chance to score on a great pass by A. Perri, but the shot just missed. The All-Stars scored the next two; one on a long shot that went under the Hurricane's goalie and the other got past the goalie and was almost saved by the defense. The half ended with the All-Stars leading 2-1.
In the second half, the Hurricanes kept the pressure on. On a direct kick from the right side of the box, M. Williams passed the ball to M. Sparks at the right of the goal. M. Sparks put the ball in the back of the net. The teams traded scoring chances, but neither could finish, until the last minutes. The All-Stars had two corner kicks, back to back. On the second one, there were a lot of players crowding the goal. The ball bounced around and was kicked into the back of the net. The game ended with the All-Stars winning 3-2. The Hurricanes record dropped to 2-2-2.
