It was a hazy, hot and humid morning at Cooper River Park for the Third Annual Bill Kile's Memorial Run. Over 75 people participated in the 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk, and over 150 runners lined up for the TAC-Certified 4-Mile Run. In the men's division, it was Eric Lorenz of Medford who came in with a time of 20:27, three seconds better than last year's winner, but still 21 seconds behind the course record set by Chuck Crabb in the race's first running in 1997. The women's division winner was Pam Gess of Somerdale, with a time of 25:21 which was 10th overall.
The run benefits the William H. Kile Jr. Humanitarian Scholarship Fund, which awards scholarships to students in the Pennsauken schools. Bill Kile was a well-known Camden County educator and runner, who died from cancer in 1996. His last job was at Pennsauken High School where he was supervisor of the English and Foreign Languages Department. This year's scholarship winners are Howard Pfeifer Middle School graduate Jonathan Paolini, and Pennsauken High School graduates Kelly Gallagher and Steven Creel.
