It still amazes Bill Kile III when he receives the amount of support each year the annual Bill Kile Memorial Run is held at Cooper River Park in Pennsauken. The hard work and determination he strides to achieve can be seen by all of his followers, supporters, friends and family. His goal as always is to have a successful event in memory of his father, William H. Kile Jr. If you have ever met Bill Kile III, you would know that his personality makes it easy to support him in his cause in raising money for the William H. Kile Jr. Humanitarian Scholarship Fund. This year's overall winner in the 4-mile run was Johnny Marino with Erin Donahue finishing first in the women's category.
The Kile family has been running this event for the past five years. With the help of family and friends such as Kile's mother Nancy, sister Kim Suiter and Dan, along with Jane and Gene Hoopes, they have taken time out of their busy to make this event special. This year, Kile took time out to recognize a veteran runner, Jerry Nolan, who was unable to participate in this year BK Run because of an injury. Nolan, 75, was hit by an automobile while walking to his mechanic's car garage. His leg was broken in two places and now wears an ankle-to-hip cast for about two more weeks. Nolan still found the time to show up and support Kile in his event.
"This year we picked up a couple new sponsors to help us with our cause", mentioned Kile after the start of the four-mile run. "It feels right...keeping the memory of my father alive." When asked about the number of people that were lined up at the registration table before the race, Kile responded, "We seemed to have a number of late registrations this year. Today we signed up about 60 people. [Today's] weather is the best we have had for this race." The day did start out with a very light sprinkle, but most important cool temperatures and cloudy skies were in place to start the run.
At the beginning of the run, Jon Jacobs was warming up for the run along with Frank Vitagliano. Jacobs has participated in a previous BK Run, and now was back and getting ready for the four-mile run. "I decided to come out for a good cause and get a little exercise," said Jacobs as he was stretching along side Dan Suiter.
After the last runner crossed the finish line, there were lots of winners ready to receive their awards. Besides the first 3 male overall winners of Johnny Marino, Daniel Deichert and Paul McCarty, there were the top 3 winners in the women's category of Erin Donahue, Mary Beth Redheffer and Jacci Clauss. The morning consisted of winners also in the age groups of 14-and-under, 15-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-and-over, and the masters group. All were winners today because they were the ones participating in this event for a good cause.
