Event Spotlight: Another Successful Bill Kile's Memorial Run Saturday, July 29, 2000 By Art Redd SJSports Staff Writer Several events through out South Jersey are held to benefit a good cause. Well, the Fourth Annual Bill Kile's Memorial Run was held on a picture perfect Saturday morning. With mostly cloudy skies and temperatures in the low 70's, the participants of the memorial run were able to travel the 4-mile course in comfortable weather. Those conditions allowed this year's event achieve the most successful run in their brief existence. Bill Kile III, along with his mother Nancy, sister Kim Suiter, brother-in-law Dan and other close friends, has noticed the increased number of participants. "Last year there were only 72 (participants) in the four mile run", mentioned Kile right after the start of the race. When asked for his reasoning of why over 200 applications were filled out, "The weather had a lot to do with it. We're not going up against another race this weekend. Maybe Dad had something to do with it." The benefit from this event has its rewards for students at Pennsauken High School. The William H. Kile Jr. Humanitarian Scholarship Fund provides money for students to further their college education. This years' winners were graduating seniors Jennifer Esola, Issac Gomez, Khang Le and Elizabeth Rodriguez. Each received $1,000 towards their college/university of their choice. Also, middle school winners from Howard Phifer Middle School were Nhan Nguyen and Gloria Wan. The four mile race started with 140 runners and some walkers. Today, the goverall winner with a time of 21:30 was Larry Schemelig Jr. Second place went to Daniel Deichert who finished with a time of 22:29. Joe Puleo (24:03) came in third place. In the women's division, Pam Gess came in first completing the course in 25:16, Dana Palumbo came in second (25:57) and Carolyn Bujak finished third with a time of 27:55. Before the 4-mile run, the fun one mile run was held with Mike Fleshman finishing first and Angela Washington coming in second.
