South Jersey Ice Hockey: Saturday, November 6, 1999
By Mike Costantino Tim Miller had two goals and two assists as Scranton defeated Rutgers-Camden 4-3 in a Delaware Valley league game on Saturday at the Coliseum. Rutgers trailed 4-1 early in the third period, but a power play goal and an end-to-end rush by Adam Lemma cut the lead to 4-3. Despite out-shooting Scranton thirty-five to twenty-five, Rutgers couldn't get the equalizer. After Lemma scored his first of two goals to give Rutgers the early 1-0 lead, Miller tied the game shortly thereafter. With five minutes remaining in the first period, Mike Lavelle gave Scranton the lead for good and the period ended 2-1. Although neither team scored in the second period, both teams had chances with Scranton's goalie Chris Durose making some key saves as he turned away all seventeen shots. As there were just seconds left in the period, Rutgers picked up a five minute major for slashing and the third period began with Scranton on the power play. Right after the opening face-off, Mike Dursch scored on a shot from the blue line that seemed to handcuff goalie Bill Douglas and the lead was 3-1. Still on the man advantage, Miller made it 4-1 with Lavelle and Dursch assisting. Rutgers was on the power play when Mike Krump scored with George Bailey assisting to give Rutgers some life at 4-2. With just under eight minutes to play, Lemma picked up the puck behind his net and sped up ice, blew by the defense and banged home his second to make it 4-3. What Adam lacks in size he makes up for in speed and heart. He is not afraid to throw his body around. The last two minutes of the game ended with Rutgers on the power play, but Durose withstood the attack. Photos by Boog Williams
