Flyers Open Training Camp

PRESS RELEASE
On September 10, 2000, the Philadelphia Flyers opened their 2000-01 training camp with 54 players on their roster. For the first day the 54 players are divided into 3 teams of 18 each. The names of the teams are by the colors of the jerseys, Black, Orange and White. They will scrimmage for the next couple of days at 9:00, 10:00, and 11:00 am at the Voorhees Skate Zone. Here are the rosters for each team.

The first scrimmage for the 2000-2001 season matched the Black vs. the Orange. If you look at the lineups, you would think the Black team would have the advantage, but it didn't turn out that way. The Orange team defeated the Black team 4-1. Mark Recchi scored the fourth goal of the game. It was nice to see newly signed Chris Therien out on the ice. There was some hitting in the first game, but more came in the second scrimmage between the Orange and White teams. There were a lot of fans watching the scrimmages, with standing room only. The Skate Zone maintenance team didn't waste time between games, moving the next game to a second rink. While the second game was going on, the first rink was resurfaced. Outside of the Skate Zone, they had a Phantoms shoot-on-goal and a Sixers basketball shooting game for all the fans to play for free. These free events have been up since the September 8, as part of the opening of the Voorhees Flyers Skate Zone.
