Ice Hockey Spotlight: Phantoms Push Past Penguins Philadelphia Brings Home 3-1 Win Saturday, February 17, 2007 By Brian Smith WILKES-BARRE, PA - Martin Houle turned away 35 of 36 Wilkes-Barre/Scranton shots as the Philadelphia Phantoms took a 3-1 win over the Penguins on Saturday night. Niko Dimitrakos, Stefan Ruzicka and Darren Reid all scored for the Phantoms, who extended their power play streak to 10 consecutive games with at least one man-advantage goal. Dimitrakos started the scoring early in the game, firing home a shot from the slot during a delayed penalty call against the Penguins. The 1-0 lead stood from the 6:15 mark of the first period all the way through the second intermission. Just 1:19 into the third period, Philadelphia took a 2-0 advantage on the power play. Boyd Kane put a shot on net that Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers stopped, but Ruzicka was there to jam home the rebound to the right side. Then, at the 8:30 mark, the Phantoms made it a 3-0 advantage on a bit of unfortunate luck for Drouin-Deslauriers. Reid fired a shot that hit the goatender's glove, but it popped out and slid over the line. Wilkes-Barre ended Houle's shutout bid with 5:45 remaining. Tyler Spurgeon deflected a Matt Carkner shot such that it eluded the netminder, making it a 3-1 game and closing out the scoring. The loss went to Drouin-Deslauiers, who turned away 16 of 19 Phantoms chances. Houle took the win for Philadelphia. The Phantoms return to the Wachovia Spectrum on Sunday to welcome former head coach and captain John Stevens back to the building for his induction into the Phantoms Hall of Fame prior to the 5:05 start against the Norfolk Admirals. Individual tickets for all Phantoms games, including $8 tickets for children 14 and under anywhere in the building, are on sale now at phantomshockey.com or by calling 800-298-4200.
