Ice Hockey Spotlight: Sound Tigers Squeak By Phantoms Bridgeport Takes 3-2 Shootout Win Friday, January 19, 2007 By Mike Thornton PHILADELPHIA - Jeff Tambellini scored in regulation and then tallied the only goal in the shootout to lift the Bridgeport Sound Tigers to a 3-2 shootout win over the Philadelphia Phantoms on Friday night before 8,556 at the Wachovia Spectrum. For the second consecutive game, Eric Meloche opened the scoring. He carried the puck down the left wing on a three-on-two rush and cut in along the goal line before flicking a wrister that Wade Dubielewicz stopped. Meloche collected the rebound and swept behind the net, then came out on the other side and jammed a backhander through Dubielewicz's pads for the unassisted goal at 15:09. After a scoreless second period, Tambellini tied the game at 6:41 of the third. The game was in a 4-on-4 situation when Robert Nilsson cycled the puck to Tambellini on the right boards, who in turn came to the high slot before snapping home a wrister to make it 1-1. The goal ended a scoreless streak of 102:27 for Scott Munroe, who had not allowed a goal since the 14:04 mark of the first period on Wednesday vs. Binghamton. Bridgeport took the lead just over two minutes later. Tomas Malec took a shot from the right point and Peter Ferraro got enough of his stick on the puck to make it knuckle and bounce past Munroe to make it 2-1 at the 8:44 mark. With 2:10 to play, Tony Voce found the equalizer. He was stickhandling behind and to the right of the net before he snuck out in front and played it through a puck-sized hole between Dubielewicz and the post. In the shootout, Tambellini scored his eventual game-winner in the first round. Munroe had to leave the game with a lower-body injury, and Martin Houle came in to handle the final four shots. He did not allow a goal, but Dubielewicz was perfect on the other end to give his club the extra point. Munroe earned third star honors with 29 saves on 31 shots while taking the shootout loss. Dubielewicz went his 12th consecutive game without a regulation loss, turning aside 36 of 38 Phantoms attempts. The Phantoms are in Albany tomorrow night to take on the River Rats before returning home on Sunday, when they'll host Norfolk on Peter Forsberg Bobblehead Day at the Spectrum. The first 4,000 fans will take home a Peter Forsberg bobblehead courtesy of Toyota.
