The Hollydell Hurricanes Ice Hockey Bantam A (14-15 year olds) travel club, out of Hollydell Ice Arena in Sewell, NJ, has catapulted itself to elite status by completing an undefeated season (17-0-1) in the NJYHL hockey league and clinching the Championship. The Hurricanes have accomplished this after only their second season as a member of the (New Jersey Youth Hockey League).
This accomplishment earned them the chance to compete at the Atlantic District Championships. Districts bring together teams from the NJYHL and the DVHL (Delaware Valley Hockey League). The top 4 teams are selected from the states of New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware. Again, the Hollydell Hurricanes Bantam A went undefeated to clinch the Atlantic District Championship.
This victory earned them a berth to compete in the North East Sectional Championships. This brings together the #1 Teams from New Jersey, New York, Maine, Vermont, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire. In the preliminary rounds, the Hurricanes defeated the teams from Maine and Rhode Island, and finished with a tie against New Hampshire. Their success in prelims earned them the chance to compete in the semi-final round. Winning this game against the team from Massachusetts placed the Hurricanes in the Championship final. An exciting hockey game ensued and despite a great team effort, on this day, the team from New York came out on top.
The Hurricanes Bantam A team has achieved 2nd place in the North East Sectional Championships. This is quite an accomplishment from a region that encompasses over 250 teams!!!
The Bantam A Hurricanes have proven in just two seasons that there is indeed a wealth of hockey talent in the South Jersey area. They ARE ready to challenge for NJYHL, Atlantic District, North East Sectional and National dominance.
