South Jersey Ice Hockey: Saturday, June 12, 1999
By Brad Park The Hollydell Hurricanes Summer Select PeeWee team opened their 1999 season with a convincing win on the road against a talented Iceline hockey club. Powered by #00 Ciesielski's hat trick and #99 Lucas' two goal performance, the Canes defeated Iceline 7-4. After eight intense weeks of practice, the Canes hit the Iceline Ice Arena with a flurry. After falling behind 1-0 early, the Canes never looked back. In the first ten minutes, the Canes peppered the Iceline net minder with numerous scoring chances. Ciesielski finally broke the Iceline shutout with his first goal of the the period, a quick wrist shot from the slot. The Iceline net minder didn't have a chance. On his next shift, Ciesielski connected again giving the Hurricanes a 2-1 end of period lead. The Canes out shot Iceline 8-6. In the second period, it was #99 Lucas' line that got the Canes going. His two early goals were the result of strong fore checking from his teammates. On his second goal, #25 Choty made a nice pass from behind the net, to Lucas who was alone in the slot. Lucas buried the shot past a sprawling Iceline net minder, giving the Canes a 4-1 lead. It was now Ciesielski's turn to complete his hat trick. Once again, the Canes demonstrated excellent teamwork. Ciesielski took a very nice pass from #11 Joe Del Rossi and completed his opening day hat trick. The period ended 5-2, with the Canes out shooting Iceline 16-13. The teams traded goals in the third period. Hollydell got scores from #25 Choy and #8 Clacey to round out the scoring. Iceline did mount an attack late in the third period, out shooting the Canes 11-7. But the Canes defense and net minder held their own and skated away with a 7-4 victory. The team is led by coach Dan Del Rossi. Del Rossi has been involved with hockey for 25 years, as both a player and a coach. He has coached for 5 years at Hollydell, leading both in-house and select teams at the Squirt, PeeWee, and Bantam levels. He has also assisted in various Learn-to-Skate, Learn-to-Play, and Power Skating programs at Hollydell Ice Area. The Hollydell Hurricanes play out of Hollydell Ice Arena located in Washington Township, New Jersey.
