High School Ice Hockey: Tuesday, April 4, 2000
By Mike Costantino Gunnar Fox had one goal and three assists, while Eddie Marker and Joe Gori added two goals apiece as the Gloucester County All-Stars defeated the Burlington County All-Stars 10-3 in the first game of the SJHSIHL round robin tournament. Gori opened the scoring in the first minute of the game on a feed from Pat Sullivan. Less than a minute later Fox made it 2-0 on a pass from Marker. Bill DeVece cut the lead to 2-1 at the twelve -minute mark and it looked like Burlington County had stopped the momentum. Eric Marano gave Gloucester County a 3-1 lead scoring on a breakaway midway through the period. Despite out-shooting Burlington County 17-6, there was no further scoring, thanks mainly to the play of goalie Sean Sheehan. Gloucester County blew the game open in the second period scoring three times. Marker scored at the eleven-minute mark with Fox assisting, and then on the power play John Meenan set up Gori with a great pass in the slot and it was 5-1. Buddy Anderson made it 6-1 late in the period and Gloucester was in complete control. Goals by Mike Gooch, Marker, Meenan and Joe Pelle sandwiched by goals from Burlington County's Bob Shomo and Bryson Sundbergh closed out the scoring and the 10-3 final. Gloucester County generated 48 shots and looks like the team to beat. With the win they picked up 5 points, 2 for the win and another three for out-scoring Burlington in each of the three periods.
