South Jersey Ice Hockey: Boardwalk Bullies Re-sign Forward Matzka Last Season's Team Rookie of the Year Returns to Atlantic City Thursday, September 19, 2002 By Mary Rose Faustman The Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies of the East Coast Hockey League re-signed forward Scott Matzka, it was announced today by Bullies Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Mike Haviland. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The Port Huron, Mich., native was named the Bullies' Rookie of the Year last season after tallying 52 points (17G,35A) and 97 penalty minutes in 63 games. Matzka also had an impressive playoffs, registering 11 points (4G,7A) and 14 penalty minutes in 12 games. Last year the 6-0, 195-pound center earned a call-up to the Grand Rapids Griffins in the American Hockey League. Matzka scored one goal in four games with the Griffins before returning to the Bullies. "Scott had an exceptional rookie season and is a solid two-way player," commented Haviland. "He was a consistent presence game after game last year and we're excited to have him back for another season." Prior to turning professional, Matzka played four seasons at the University of Michigan. He registered 91 points (35G,56A) and 214 penalty minutes in 166 games for the Wolverines.
