High School Football: Saturday, September 9, 2006 By Clark Washington You here it all of the time and yet they still sometimes get over looked. When the Fighting Irish from Camden Catholic traveled to Woodrow Wilson competing in a Burlington County/Olympic Conference inter-division football game, it would be the offensive line quietly working hard at protecting the quarterback or creating lanes to run through. Runningback Greg Wanamaker found out first hand how good that o-line was as on the first play from scrimmage, weaving his way through the Tigers’ defense and scored from 70-yards out. In a game where Woodrow Wilson opened the game with a moment of silence for Shykem Lawrence, senior player recovering from a spinal cord injury, the Tigers would open the season without their inspirational leader. The Irish would set the tone early and defeat Woodrow Wilson 26-0. |
High School Basketball: Monday, February 6, 2006 By Zachary Hibbs Fresh off of their victory against Camden, Woodrow Wilson would compete against another neighboring team in LEAP Academy. The Lancers were looking to get back to the winning side of a game after being defeated by St. Benedicts this past weekend. The two teams were competing in a non-league that started off with LEAP Academy holding onto a four point lead. Woodrow Wilson would find themselves quickly trailing before the half when the Lancers erupted for twenty-seven second quarter points. That proved to be the difference in this game as LEAP Academy would pick up their fifteenth win of the season when they defeat the Tigers 78-69. |
High School Basketball: Saturday, February 4, 2006 By Susan Hall Both Willingboro and Woodrow Wilson were having success this season at winning games and both have their stories to tell. When these two teams met at Rancocas Valley participating in the Jeff Coney Memorial Tournament, it was a chance to see two girl's basketball programs from different conferences compete in a non-league game. Tiffany Crews would lead Willingboro this season in scoring average, but this day belonged to Woodrow Wilson's De'ree Fooks and Ashley Baker. Fooks needed six points to record her 1000th point and she would do that and then some. Baker would be named most valuable player during the tournament that the Lady Tigers defeat Willingboro by a 67-45 score. |
High School Basketball: Thursday, January 26, 2006 By Jerome Michaels It was a game that both teams had the confidence that they would be the winner of this game. No lead was safe and no deficit was too great to overcome when the Tigers from Woodrow Wilson traveled to Paul VI competing in an Olympic Conference National Division game. The Tigers would lead by a point with 15 seconds remaining in the game only to see Robbie Grant's basket and foul shot with 1.6 seconds remaining in the game push Paul VI's lead by two points. After a timeout, Woodrow Wilson would attempt a desperation shot from will behind the half court line but bounced off the ceiling rafters. Paul VI would extend their winning streak to nine games when they escaped with the 77-75 victory. |
High School Basketball: Thursday, January 5, 2006 By Jerome Michaels Even though most teams have completed just about a third of their schedule, enough games have been played in order to see which schools are playing up to their preseason expectations. There are still those teams looking to gain respect have established themselves as dominating teams that could come away with the win. For the Tigers from Woodrow Wilson traveling to take a ranked Camden Catholic team, a productive fourth quarter surge would send this game into overtime. But a very patient Irish squad came up with big time shots down the stretch and defeat Wilson 59-55 overcoming a four point deficit in overtime. |
High School Football: Saturday, October 22, 2005 By Jason Brown If you were to take a closer look at the number of teams still with a chance of making the playoffs, it would be a clear indication that every game is a must win for those teams down the stretch. Every player on the football team must find a way to play their hardest and smartest in order to come away with the victory for the team. Winslow Township’s Gawain Bragg demonstrated that urgency on the field against Woodrow Wilson Saturday afternoon. With the rain causing the field conditions to be a bit difficult to maneuver, Bragg would find his footing and was just one of many players coming through with the big plays for his team. Winslow Township would pull away from the Tigers in the second half and pick up the Homecoming victory 20-6. |
