The 2001 Winslow Field Hockey team has proven itself to be a real contender in the Olympic Conference. Despite the fact of experience being a relevant issue during pre-season, the entire program has proven itself to be a force in South Jersey. The Eagles are currently ranked 19 in South Jersey with a record of 6-2-5 (as of 10/15/01). On Friday, 10/12/01, the Eagles secured a playoff birth to further their play in the post-season. With four games left on their regular season schedule, the team wants to continue to build their confidence and maturity as they step into the Group 4 State playoffs.
Team unity has resulted in the Eagles overall success this season. Senior leadership by Amanda Bradian, Katie Chance, Joy Earley, Jen May, Megan Murphy, and Jessica Walker has allowed the underclassman to build their confidence everyday. These seniors have stepped in mature roles both on and off of the field to build the high emotion team unity. These six young ladies have been the nucleus of a team, which has proven itself throughout the conference and state.
Danielle Nagy, the lone starting Junior, has been a solid wall defensively in the backfield. A slew of sophomores rounds out the team with Brooke Henry, Jamie Schaffer, Mandy Biagi, Colleen Dougherty, Alycia Gotthold, Roxanne Berle, Jen Sauders, and Kristie Muff.
In goal, Dominique Caporelli, a sophomore, has had to fill big shoes in a tough Olympic Conference. Jeannie Nutter, the Eagles starting goalie in 2000, sustained an injury in the summer, which forced her to be on the sidelines until recently. Dominique has proved herself to be a goalie with a lot of potential since stepping into a challenging role.
With four games remaining, and post-season with promising potential, the Lady Eagles are worth watching. The Eagles are flying high toward their goals with each day soaring to new heights.
