Justin Osterdahl scored five goals, including the game winner with twenty-three seconds left in the game as Williamstown upset Eastern 6-5 in high school ice hockey action played at Hollydell. Williamstown led 2-0 after the first period on goals by Eric Finn on the power play and one by Osterdahl on a breakaway. Eastern fought back to tie the game at 2-2 as Andrew Kaiser scored two goals less than a minute apart early in the second period.
Osterdahl answered at the eight minute mark, again scoring on a breakaway and Williamstown led 3-2. Anthony Grey, who had a strong game for Eastern, responded on the power play putting home a shot by Chris Ball. Just a few minutes later, Grey made a nice play at the point to keep the puck in, and his shot was put home by Dan Drazen and Eastern had its first lead at 4-3. Late in the period Osterdahl had another breakaway, but was pulled down form behind and awarded a penalty shot. While you rarely see this called it was the correct call and Osterdahl buried his opportunity to tie the game at 4-4 as we headed into the third period.
Osterdahl again on a break gave Williamstown a 5-4 lead four minutes into the third period. Eastern responded about three minutes later as Dan Tavana on a face-off drew the puck back to Rich Pianti and his slap shot found the net and once again we were tied at 5-5. If we were in Vegas and I was a betting man, the odds on Osterdahl scoring on a breakaway would have been pretty good. Well with just a few seconds remaining he sped in on a break and scored the game winner that gives Williamstown their third victory of the season.
