High School Baseball: Tuesday, April 6, 1999
By Allen Stowell The Williamstown baseball team opened the regular season with a tournament at Haddon Heights High School. In the first game Haddon Heights won 8-5. Key performers for the Braves: Scott Reise 3-4 with 2 doubles, Jason Grimes solo HR. In the second game the Braves beat Pennsauken 5-4. Winning pitcher was Ed Shilinsky who also went 2-4 with a solo homerun and 5 strike outs on the hill. Victor Crenshaw went 2-5 with 2 doubles, Mike Malone added two hits, Scott Reise went 3-5 with 3 RBI's and the game winning hit, driving in Mike Malone in the bottom of the ninth inning. On Monday, the Braves defeated Penns Grove by the score of 5-3. Jason Grimes broke a deadlock score with his second home run of the season. His solo shot in the fifth inning made the score 4-3 and was the eventual game winner. The Braves added one more run on a lead off walk by Victor Crenshaw. Crenshaw stole second and scored on Mike Malone's RBI single. Winning pitcher was Steve Casalnova for Williamstown. The Braves are now 2-1.
