High School Ice Hockey: Hat Trick by DeHart Carries West Deptford Friday, November 22, 2002 By Mike Costantino Doug DeHart scored three goals as West Deptford defeated Washington Township 4-2 in Tier 2 action at Hollydell. DeHart, showing his versatility, scored on a power play, one short-handed and also on an even strength goal. West Deptford led 2-0 after the first period. DeHart would convert a pass from Rob Garish on the power play. Next after Township turned the puck over, DeHart jumped on a loose puck and his wrist shot beat Colin Sheridan who was in nets for the Minutemen. Township cut the lead to 2-1 on Marco Jordan scored a short-handed goal. When Matt Sharkey and Jordan broke in on goal and the initial save was made, Jordan was right their to chip home the rebound. Township had a gold opportunity to tie the game with West Deptford down a man, but DeHart poke checked the puck from the defenseman and his breakaway goal made it 3-1. Later in the period, Kyle Stokes would convert a pass from Jordan and Matt Grossi to bring Township to within 3-2. Despite numerous chances in the third period Township could not get the equalizer. With three minutes left Garish intercepted a clearing pass and his quick shot found the net and closed out the scoring. |
