High School Ice Hockey: Friday, November 12, 1999
By Mike Costantino Alex Vasserman had three goals and an assist, and Bryce VanArsdalen was stellar in goal as Cherry Hill West defeated West Deptford 6-4 in a SJHSIHL game played at Hollydell on Friday. After each team failed on separate five-minute power plays, Bob Koch gave Deptford the 1-0 lead with just over three minutes left in the period. But the lead would only last forty-four seconds, as Vasserman would score his first of three, unassisted to tie the game at 1-1 heading into the second period. West Deptford would take the lead again as Doug Dehart broke in all alone and scored to make it 2-1, with Brad Clifford and Matt Moore assisting. VanArsdalen would make great saves on two separate breakaways to keep West close, and with just under five minutes remaining in the period, Labetta would tie the game at 2-2. Forty-five seconds later Vasserman scored to give Cherry Hill the lead for good at 3-2. After Myers scored to increase the lead to 4-2, Dehart scored his second of the game to close the gap to 4-3. That's when VanArsdalen continued his strong play and with just over six minutes to play, Davidson made it 5-3. But back came Deptford less than a minute later as Clifford scored to make it 5-4. Vasserman would score thirteen seconds later to close out the scoring at 6-4. VanArsdalen would cap his performance as Deptford had two men skate in all alone and he slid across to make the save and preserve the lead.
