High School Ice Hockey: Six Goal Third Sparks Township Over Eastern Friday, November 10, 2006 By Mike Costantino Washington Township scored six goals in the third period to break open a close game and they went on to defeat Eastern 8-0 in front of a sparse crowd at Hollydell. With both teams missing key players, each team called up players from their JV teams to fill out the roster, and Township got an earl contribution from one of the players. After Christian Biscardi scored at the six minute mark to give Township a 1-0 lead, Jared Emmet scored his first goal as a Minuteman on a pass from Christian Fleagle to make it 2-0. Despite dominating the second period, out-shooting Eastern 19-3, Township could not find the net, thanks in a large part to the efforts of Eastern goalie Mike Dougherty. However Township quickly took control early in the third period, scoring three goals in less than ninety seconds to break the game open, as Tom Roache, Colin Davis and Fleagle all scored. Davis seemed to be all over the ice and created opportunities when ever he was on the ice. Fleagle added his second goal later and Matt Fleekop scored his first varsity goal as Township jumped ahead of Shawnee for first place in the division. |
