It was a game that the Minutemen needed to win. After starting out the season winning 4 of their first 5 games of the season, the Ralph Shaw Classic baseball tournament can either turn a season around or let you scratching your head in disbelief. For Washington Township, they had split their games during the tournament and were looking for a much needed win. Steve Roop took charge on the mound while Mike Modica had a good day at the plate against the Chargers from Timber creek. Roop pitched a one hit shutout to highlight Washington Township’s 10-0 victory.
Washington Township took advantage of every opportunity presented to them throughout this Olympic Conference game. Scoring in every inning, the Minutemen were never in any danger as they scored three times in the first and fourth innings. With an 8-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, Washington Township was able to end this game early by scoring the necessary runs to shorten this important game. Steve Roop’s one hitter was combined with Modica’s successful day at the plate with two extra base hits and four runs batted in.
