High School Ice Hockey:
LaSalle Too Much for Township
Friday, January 10, 2003
Matt Loftus scored four goals and Andrew Brody added two as LaSalle defeated Washington Township 9-3 in AAA action. After Loftus and Brody gave LaSalle a 2-0 lead, Drew Petersen brought Township back first scoring on a backhander in the slot to cut the lead to 2-1. On the power play, Peterson's blast from the point was deflected home by Nino Cammarata to tie the game at 2-2 after one period.
During the second period, it was all LaSalle as they score three goals and held Township to just two shots. Loftus netted two and John Williams also scored all in the first 5 minutes to break the game open at 5-2. When LaSalle wasn't scoring they were controlling the puck. On one power play, they kept the puck in the zone for almost the entire two minutes and although they didn't score, it was clear that they were in control.
Wayne Gaddison, Tom Ferick, Brody and Loftus added third period goals for LaSalle and Stephen Amato added one for Township. Despite having only one win in twelve games in their first year in the AAA league, this was only the second game that they were handled.
