Chris Keyser figured in all the scoring with two goals and three assists while Mike Lalli was outstanding in nets, leading Washington Township over West Deptford 5-3 in Tier 2 semi-final action last night at Hollydell. Brandon Jackmuff led the West Deptford attack with two goals. Keyser scored the only goal of the first period, getting credit for the goal as it was inadvertently deflected in by a West Deptford defenseman. Lalli made several acrobatic saves including stoning Jackmuff twice on breakaways.
Township converted on the power play early in the second period as Keyser was left alone in front and his shot just trickled in to make it 2-0. Then at the eight-minute mark, West Deptford got caught in a line change. Township had a 3-on-1 break with John Lomanaco scoring on assists from Keyser and Nino Cammarato. Less than a minute later, Joe Abate jumped on a rebound off a shot by Keyser and his quick shot made it 4-0. Lalli continued to frustrate West Deptford making several close in saves. Finally with just under one minute remaining, Jackmuff was sent in by Glen Poirier and he was able to solve Lalli and cut the lead to 4-1. Right after the face-off Jackmuff broke in again, but Lalli stoned him and despite being out-shot 26-14, Township led 4-1 heading into the third period.
Jackmuff scored midway through the final period on a slap shot from the point with his team short-handed, and it was 4-2. Then on the power play, Doug Dehart scored from the slot and West Deptford was to within 4-3. But with two minutes left, Keyser won a face-off and drew the puck to the top of the slot and James Novak's one-timer put the game away at 5-3.
