Eric Marano tallied twice and Dan Straga played a strong game in nets as Washington Township beat Rancocas Valley 6-2 in a Tier 1 game played at Hollydell on Friday night. After Aaron Smith scored a power play goal just over two minutes into the game to give Rancocas the early 1-0 lead, Marano tied the score at 1-1 on a nice feed from Joe Pelle and Mark Capone. Early in the second period Township had a two-man advantage and capitalized as Capone's blast from the point found the back of the net and a 2-1 lead.
Still on the power play Marano made it 3-1 as he banged home a rebound off a shot from Pelle. Rancocas hung tough and they took advantage of a two-man advantage as Jeff Sporer converted a Ray Mellon pass to make it 3-2. But the back breaker would come one minute later with Township killing the second penalty. Pete Laman's shot from the point somehow found the net through a maze of players and his short-handed goal gave Township a 4-2 lead, Chris Andrews assisted.
Township's fifth goal was pure hustle. With his team with the man advantage, Pelle stole the puck as he buried the defenseman and broke in on the goalie who made the initial stop. Pelle would jam home the rebound and the lead grew to 5-2. Mike Duczkowski closed out the scoring for Township as Township skate away with a 6-2 victory.
