Washington Township used balanced scoring to defeat Highland 8-5 in Tier 2 action at Hollydell on Friday night. Despite surrendering eight goals, Highland goaltender Greg Reese was outstanding facing sixty-one shots, numerous from in close and did well to only allow eight to get past him. Leading the way for Township with two goals each were Jason Pelle, Ryan Jagielski and Mike Duczkowski. For Highland, John Feldman and Nick Megara scored two goals each.
After spotting Highland a 1-0 lead in the games first ten seconds, Township scored the next six goals led by their top line of Dom Fiandra, Mike Duczkowski and Tom Davidson. That line dominated on every shift they were on the ice. On the first goal, Duczkowski hustled to negate an icing call and one-timed a pass to Fiandra who re-directed the puck into the back of the net and tied the game at 1-1. Three minutes later, Davidson made a nice play to keep the puck in the zone, and Duczkowski tipped in his point shot for a 2-1 lead. Just before the period ended, Pelle put in a rebound off a Chris Keyser shot and after one period Township led 3-1.
Township launched twenty four shots in the second period, constantly testing Reese, but only Chris Lyon and two by Jagielski were able to find the back of the net and the lead grew to 6-1. A late goal by Feldman cut the lead to 6-2 heading into the third period, but a power play goal by Pelle early in the third made it 7-2. However Highland did not go away as they scored three goals over the next three minutes to cut the lead to 7-5. But Duczkowski sealed the deal with just less than three minutes remaining, jamming home a rebound of a Fiandra shot and Township held on for the 8-5 victory.
