Ryan Jones had two goals and an assist to lead LaSalle over Washington Township 6-5 in a non-league game played at Hollydell on Friday night. Township scored first on the power as Adam Zaccaria kept the puck in along the boards and blasted a shot through a screen to make it 1-0. Less than three minutes later Eric Marano streaked down the left side and scored from the short side and Township led 2-0. LaSalle finally broke through as Jones set up Kolar to cut the lead to 2-1.
Right after the face-off Joe Pelle broke in all alone and scored with the assist going to Zaccaria and Township led by two again at 3-1 late in the first period. But Jones broke in with thirty seconds left in the period and his goal brought LaSalle to within 3-2 heading into the second period. Scheduling these non-league games should prove valuable for not only Township but Clearview and Eastern as well.
The middle stanza was all LaSalle as they outscored Township 4-1 to take a 6-4 lead into the third period. After scoring on the power play early in the period to tie the game at 3-3, Jones sped in and wristed a shot to give LaSalle a 4-3 lead. After Steve Brown tied the score at 4-4 scoring on the power play, goals by McCabe and Trokel gave the Explorers the lead for good at 6-4. Zaccaria scored the lone goal in the third but Township could get no closer than 6-5.
