Joe Pelle had three goals and an assist, Joe Gori and Steve Brown each scored twice as Washington Township raced to a 9-1 victory over Eastern in the first meeting between the top two teams in the league. Buddy Anderson added a goal and four assists. Township used its speed and took control early as Pelle scored with less than two minutes played as he broke in and beat freshman goalie Dan Meyers. Most of the period was spent in the Eastern zone as their defense continually gave Township the blue line. Against a high powered offense, that simply just won't work.
Goals by Anderson, Brown and Gori on the power play gave Township a 5-0 lead after one period. The second period started off just like the first as Anderson broke in and fed Gori in the slot and his one timer increased the lead to 6-0. After Brown's second goal made it 7-0, Coach Pontonio decided to insert Mike Keppler in goal. Keppler's play was the lone bright spot for the Vikings. Eastern finally got on the board as Mike Becker scored on the power play late in the period to make it 7-1. Pelle and Gori closed out the scoring for Township and with the 9-1 victory remained undefeated in league play and in first place.
