High School Ice Hockey: Sunday, November 7, 1999
By Mike Costantino Washington Township scored three goals in a span of four minutes in the third period and went on to defeat Eastern 6-2 in a JVA division game played at Hollydell. After a scoreless first period, Adam Roy gave Eastern the 1-0 lead fifteen seconds into the second period on a nice pass from Bret Fadako. Nick Martorano would tie the game at 1-1 with just over eight minutes remaining in the second period. Both teams played solid defense and limited the scoring chances, but with Eastern on the power play Randy Einfalt scored with Bryce Lawson and Roy assisting and Eastern led 2-1. That lead would last about four minutes when Jason Pelle, one of the smaller players in size but not in heart, tied the game at 2-2 with Joby Passanante assisting. With the momentum seeming to favor the Minutemen, Drew Petersen broke in all alone and faking a backhand, he drew the puck to his forehand. Peterson then flipped it into the empty net. The assists went to Nick Stefanopulos and Greg Simiriglio. We headed into the third period with Township clinging to a 3-2 lead. Township carried much of the play in the period and the three-goal burst would start with just over nine minutes left in the game. Ian Potter converted a Mike Murro pass to make it 4-2. One minute later, Passanante scored with Mark Capone and Simiriglio assisting to make it 5-2. Murro would close out the scoring for Township as John Spallino assisted and the game ended 6-2.
