High School Ice Hockey: Monday, October 18, 1999
By Jack Anderson Washington Township continued to roll through the early part of its schedule with a 6-0 romp of Cinnaminson. Junior forward Joe Gori notched a hat trick, while Scott Singer, Bill Verdecchio and Steve Brown tallied a goal apiece. Senior defenseman Joe Junfola rang up 2 assists in the first period. Cinnaminson, coming off a near win against 1999 SJHSIHL champion Eastern, and a 2-1 victory over Holy Cross, could not seem to penetrate Township's solid wall of defense. With Township's standout blueliner, Derek Poletis, on the shelf with an injured shoulder, Senior defenders Ken Condit, Junfola, and Chris Harrington played soundly at both ends, not allowing Cinnaminson any room to set up in the Township zone. That, combined with constant pressure by the balanced Township offensive attack, kept the puck in the Cinnaminson end of the ice for most of the night. Senior goaltender Derek Lucas kept Cinnaminson at bay early on, making a few tough saves in the opening minutes. It should be noted that Lucas has yet to surrender a goal in his last 4 1/2 periods of league play.
