High School Ice Hockey: Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998
By Rick Murro On February 13, Billy Verdecchio and Adam Zaccaria, of Washington Township, travelled to Quebec City to participate in the 39th Annual World Hockey Championship. They played for Team Philadelphia, which was a team selected to play exclusively in this tournament. During their stay in Canada, they lived with a local French Canadian family. They played in 7 exhibition games against teams from Canada, Russia, Czechoslovakia, and France. The 4 tournament games were held in the Colisee, with capacity crowds of 16,000 people. All the games were shown on Canadian television, and the final game against Toronto was broadcast live. After 9 days of rigorous play, Team Philadelphia brought home silver medals for placing second in the tournament.
