High School Ice Hockey: Varano Nets Three as Highland Rolls over Triton Monday, October 18, 2004 By Mike Costantino SJSports Staff Writer Mike Varano had three goals and Andrew Trapani, Matt Zelasky and Mike Salvatore added two goals each as Highland defeated Triton 10-3 in high school ice hockey action in Voorhees. Highland jumped out to a 3-0 lead as Varano and Trapani scored moments apart in the opening period to take a 2-0 lead as Highland launched 17 shots on goal. Frank Vannoni scored late in the period to put Highland ahead 3-0. Triton could not muster much offense and Highland blew the game open scoring four goals in just under one minute. Salvatore scored a power play goal to make it 4-0 with just under seven minutes left in the second period. Than Varano and Trapani traded breakaway goals twenty seconds apart to make it 6-0. And Varano completed his hat trick on a nice pass from Trapani to make it 7-0 with just less than six minutes left in the period. Matt Zelasky scored twice in the third period and Salvatore added one to close out the scoring for Highland. Joe Burne scored two goals for Triton. Photos by Art Redd
