Friday night marked the end of an era in the Triton football family. For the first time in four years, the voice of the Mustangs, Tom Zimmer was not calling the game. Zimmer, who graduated last year, no longer had time to do the job. As a result, he and the school found a replacement. That replacement is our own Bob Wankel, student correspondent of SJSports Online.
We stopped by the Triton Homecoming game vs. Washington Township. Wankel had some mixed feelings about getting the job. He said, "Well, I'm happy I got the job and look forward to doing it for the next four years, but Tom never really got to officially sign off. This guy was big around here, and it's going to be hard to do this at the high standard he did." Zimmer is confident in the new voice of the Mustangs saying, "He will be better then me, he will have a full four years."
From what we have heard most people have said that the two have many similarities, and some didn't even know that Tom was not announcing. They also said he did a good job, but some people just want Zimmer. Wankel also said, "I'm very grateful towards Tom, and for what he has shown me. I hope to over time gain the respect of everyone, and particularly the players." Wankel took a step towards that job with the job he did in his first game.
