It was a cold and blustery Halloween Eve late season soccer matchup as the Mustangs of Triton in their final home game were looking to steal one from the Fighting Irish of Camden Catholic. Coming in to the game the Irish were ranked #10 in South Jersey according to the Courier Post Coaches Top 20 poll. The Mustangs had been ranked as high as #17 in that poll but have faded in recent weeks.
Triton knew they would have their hands full in this one. Early on, Camden Catholic was in control. They pressured starting goalie Wes Holmgren in the opening minutes, but were unable to tally. Holmgren left the game early with an injured leg. Triton responded with some pressure of their own, but had nothing to show for it. Camden Catholic broke the scoreless tie midway through the first half. They tallied less then 5 minutes later with a second goal. Triton was able to sustain pressure, but were still kept off the board. At the half, the Mustangs trailed it 2-0.
Both teams traded shots through the first fifteen minutes of the second half before Mario Sergi found Brad Wallace on a throw in. Wallace headed the ball in to cut the score in half. Late in the game with about a minute thirty to go Sergi had another throw in. What hoped to be a trick for the Mustangs late in the game turned out to be no treat for Triton as they were unable to knock it home. They lose a tough by the final of 2-1.
