High School Ice Hockey: Monday, December 20, 1999
By Mike Costantino Drew Ricco scored two goals as Triton rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie Collingswood 3-3 in a Tier 2 SJHSIHL game played Monday night at the Coliseum. Collingswood, leading their division, was led by Adam Wiedmann with a goal and an assist. Wiedmann scored in the first two minutes to give Collingswood the early 1-0 lead. With Triton goalie Joe Roccia playing solid in nets, he kept the Mustangs close until they could get their offense on track. With just over three minutes remaining in the period, Collingswood scored a power play goal as Smitley made it 2-0. Triton finally broke through early in the second stanza as Ed Skomsky converted on a pass from Joe Bangs to cut the deficit to 2-1. Four minutes later Ricco scored on a back-hander on a pass from Steve Zisk and we were tied at 2-2. With new life, Triton kept the pressure on and with the man advantage took the lead as the same combination, Ricco from Zisk, hooked up again and all of a sudden it was 3-2. To their credit, Collingswood did not panic, as this well-coached and talented team showed why they are in first place. Going on the power play in the final minutes of the period, Eric Sooy tied the game at 3-3, banging home the rebound with Smitley and Muckel assisting. Although there was no scoring in the third period, both teams had their chances. Photos by Boog Williams
