High School Ice Hockey: Friday, February 5, 1999
By Mike Costantino The Lenape Indians exploded for seven goals in the second period on their way to a 10-2 victory on Friday night in an SJHSIHL game played at Hollydell. With each team scoring a goal in a penalty filled first period, Dennis Reid scoring for Triton and Huckaby notching the first of his two goals on the evening, Triton entered the second period tied at 1-1. The turning point was early in the second period with Triton on the power play. Jim Davis scored a shorthanded goal for a 2-1 lead. Twenty five seconds later, Salvador scored another shorthanded goal and it was 3-1 Lenape. Less than two minutes later Bagnoli scored for the Indians and a 4-1 lead. Now trailing 4-1, Triton started pinching in at the points on offense and this created more scoring chances for the Indians. They capitalized as Schenck scored on a breakaway and it was 5-1. With Triton unable to generate any offense, Lenape scored three goals in less than a two minute span as Huckaby and Salvador each scored their second of the game. McClure tallied his first and the second period ended with the Indians ahead 8-1. Lenape closed out the scoring in the third period as Salvador got credit for his third goal and MacDonnell got his first with just under four minutes left to make it 10-1. Triton finally got on the board as Mike Caporiale scored to make the final 10-2.
