The Lady Knights from Sterling were fresh off of claiming the South Jersey’s Group 2 title against Collingswood. Their next quest was a state championship but they had to get through Rumson-Fair Haven in the semifinal round played at Southern High School. Senior Kelsey McGowan poured in a game high 22 points for Sterling, but the Bulldogs from Rumson manage to stay one step ahead and pull way during the third and final quarters. When the buzzer sounded indicating the ended of the game, it would be Rumson-Fair Haven advancing to the state finals with their 52-44 victory.
Sterling would lead after one quarter was completed by a 15-11 margin, but the shots just would not fall during the next eight minutes. Both teams combined for just twelve points during the second quarter with the Rumson scoring six more points that Sterling to led 20-18 at halftime. Sterling made several runs at getting close to their opponent but just could not overtake their opponent. Kelsey McGowan’s 22 points led the Knights while Rumson-Fair Haven was led by Carly Golden with 19, Caitlin Hyduke 16 and Sarah Fetter 10 points.
