For seven full innings, the starting pitchers for Sterling and Point Pleasant Boro were in control of this game. It was the first round of the South Jersey Group 2 softball playoffs that featured the closely match eighth seeded Lady Knights from Sterling hosting the ninth seeded Point Pleasant Boro Panthers. Both Erin Boyle and Stephanie Skroski were keeping the opposing batters off the base and scoreboard. The final and decisive run occurred when Boyle took matters in her own hands...or bat. Her solo home run in the eighth inning gave Boro the rights to move on to the next round.
Sterling had their work cut out for them this season. After missing the opportunity of playing in last year's tournament, they were faced against a team that had success obtaining their goals. The Panthers, seeded third, made it to the finals but loss by a run. This year, they were working their way back to the championship game and Sterling was standing in their way. This nail bitter watch inning after inning go by with no runners crossing the plate. Both pitchers only allowed five hits apiece, but the one hit that counted the most was the one that cleared the fence for Point Pleasant Boro.
