High School Girls Basketball: Tuesday, February 1, 2000
By Crystal Parker The stage was set for a classic meeting between the Lady Knights of Sterling High School hosting Audubon in a Colonial Conference girl's basketball game. With the Wave trying to extend a two game winning streak, they had a tough task of trying to end Sterling's two game winning streak. On this night, it was Jessica Copskey extending the Knights' winning streak. Sterling strolled away with an 85-26 victory and remain ahead of Haddon Heights in the standings. The twin towers of Copskey and Kanesha Wright established their presence early by setting up inside to post up the shorter Audubon defenders. Jumping out to a 12-5 lead in the first quarter, the Lady Knights' head coach Bill Ulrich decided to apply the full court press. This tactic created havoc for Audubon. By the time the second quarter was midway done, Copskey had moved into second place on the all-time shot blocker list for Sterling. She moved past Tori Mello (141) and was right behind Ann Barton (148). The junior guard/forward lit up the scoreboard going 6 for 6 from the field and 4 for 4 from the line. She hit all three of her 3-point shots. Holding a commanding lead, Wright (also a junior) made her presence felt by sweeping up the boards and contributing 17 points. Melissa Belonia and Lauren Armbruster each added 10 points. With the win, the Lady Knights moved solely into first place as Collingswood had upset Haddon Heights. Photos by Art Redd
