High School Girls Basketball: Thursday, February 4, 1999
By Forrest Robleto The last time these teams met it was a blowout and the first few minutes of this game looked like it might be a repeat. But then the Lady Hawks turned it up and made a game of it. Near the end of the first quarter, the Knights led by Kim Moro and Jessica Copskey led 11-4, a seven point lead, but by the half the lead was 22-18, only six points. The teams played nearly perfectly even ball through the final three quarters of play. Lauren Bolis is listed at 5'8" in the program but appears closer to 5'3" and plays like 6'2". She's a little dynamo out there with a good three point shot. The teams were holding at 36-27 for a long time in the fourth quarter when at about the five minute mark, Sterling decided to hold the ball, just passing it around the outside perimeter. That worked for a while until they made one small mistake and Lauren Bolis popped in a three to make it 36-30. They held it again for a while until Haddon Township fouled and Sterling got two to go ahead 38-30. Haddon Township dropped another three to make it 38-33. In the last five minutes of the game they turned a 9 point lead into a 5 point lead by not shooting the ball. This was either not a good plan or not good execution. They looked a lot better when they were shooting. Sterling remains on the top of the division with this 38-33 final against Haddon Township. Photos by Forrest Robleto
